This is ungracious and unkind but I actually thought he went on too long – too gushy – and he was a little bit full of himself – obviously he was putting on a show and didn’t want to give up the spotlight. His bride had to stand patiently while he went on and on and on – and then he was resisting when she tried to pull him in for a kiss.
No, I saw the touching elements, but definitely see your side of things too. I mostly liked what he said to his new wife. I think you and I are just seeing how well-rehearsed he was.
Shoegal, I am so sorry you are not able to appreciate the beauty of this speech. You’re missing a lot! It may have been longer than the usual speeches, but it is so beautiful and touching, I wouldn’t have mind if it had been even longer.
Oh jeez, that made my start tearing up and I don’t even know them! I love my husband, but that man is a prince…I feel like writing a thank you note to his parents, lol.
I teared up also. I would much rather listen to this kind of speech at a wedding than some of the ones I have sat through. Stupid, raunchy stories, or platitudes don’t hold a candle to this personal expression of love and gratitude. Lovely couple.
This is nice and all, but it’s nearly eight minutes long. Isn’t all of this gratitude best expressed in a nice, handwritten thank you letter?
I agree with shoegal and chocobo about the length. It was a nice speech, but he did speak very slowly. He sounded like he practiced so I don’t think it was nerves. 🙂 In any case, it was a nice fluffy heartwarming speech and I’m sure his parents were blushing and grinning from ear to ear, just like his bride.
If it had been anyone else but the bride or groom, I would agree that it was far too long. However, this is the groom; it was his and his bride’s day and a once in a lifetime opportunity to say what was in his heart to their entire family and their friends. I was bawling by the end, particularly when he started speaking directly to his bride. Absolutely beautiful speech!
Well, I liked it but it went on a bit to long
Had the speech been only to one person , then yes it would have been too long. But he spoke first to his parents, then to his Inlaw’s, then to the whole assembly and then to his Bride. It was appropriate in Length. And also from his heart.
Wow — professional speech-writer quality.
I enjoyed it and I agree it was a little long. At least it was under 10 minutes though–not too bad, especially for a groom’s speech. I think that in the groom’s case, he should be allowed to speak if he wants to. It’s so rare that you see a bride or groom speak at their wedding. It’s a nice change of pace. The only one to give a speech at our wedding was my DH’s brother. He did a nice job too, but it WAS a little long–not quite that long but it was about 5 minutes. I gave him a pass though, since it was the only speech of the evening!
