Whoop It Up Weddings – Atlanta Wedding Reception Donated To Homeless

by admin on September 27, 2013

Hosts of a cancelled wedding donated an elaborate reception to Atlanta’s homeless last Sunday.

Carol and Willie Fowler teamed up with Hosea Feed the Hungry, a local organization serving families in need, to turn the wedding-that-wasn’t into the first annual Fowler Family Celebration of Love, feeding 200 unexpected guests.

“We’re very pleased that she’s handling it so well,” Carol Fowler told Here & Now about her daughter. “She was also very delighted to see and know that others had an opportunity to enjoy something, rather than just allow it to go to waste.” Read the rest of the story HERE.

Plus one million points for total classiness of not using this act of generosity as a platform to sound off (or, in the case of the program host, to pry) about WHY the wedding was canceled! The combination of warm and open charitable hospitality with serene discreetness about personal issues comes off as SUPER dignified and gracious.

(Yes, I admit that the lowlife gossip-hound in me was kind of wondering about the story behind a formal wedding reception for 200 being canceled forty days before the wedding. But you know what? I’m glad that the subjects and creators of this news story didn’t indulge my sordid curiosity on an issue which is none of my gongbanged business. Keep on keeping it classy, NPR.)

Actually, I had gotten the feeling that the host, Ms.Robin Young, was trying to pry a bit. Mrs.Fowler warded off the question and didn’t get into any details about the wedding. Such a classy lady. No wonder she has a lovely daughter.

Wow. The very definition of class. Having had to cancel a wedding myself ( much farther out) her ability to think of others during this time is amazing.

Finally, a lesson on how to have guests who appreciate your reception, come when invited, and don’t complain about the amount of alcohol served. You have earned my applause!
